Join award-winning polymer clay artist Christi Friesen in Ireland for an eight-day residential workshop with tours, relaxation time, and a unique experience for the creative individual and those that accompany them. Christi will be teaching a polymer clay/mixed media project designed especially for this Beadventure (no experience working with polymer clay required!) This project will be especially memorable for all the participants in this adventure. It is a wall piece, inspired by the Book of Kells (an Irish materpiece of medieval art). Christi will help everyone incorporate the rich colors and Celtic details from the pages of the illuminated manuscripts into their own work. Each person’s piece will be unique, since everyone will be including items of interest and importance to them – maybe a pebble picked up from the beaches of Achill Island (a stop on our tour), or a chip of found stone from one of pirate queen Grace O’Malley’s castles (another excursion!), or even a souvenir from a pub or other event. The word in each piece will also be each participant’s personal choice. “I used the word ‘CAKE’” said Christi, because it’s kind of a personal philosophy of mine. I like to look at life as a constant search for ‘cake’ – the fun, delicious experiences that make life more interesting and tasty.” Of course, you may have a different word that is meaningful to you! Your project will use your own word. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is – from beginner to pro – everyone will find the project challenging without being stressful and structured without being confining. There will be two other small bonus projects for anyone finds the time or inclination to do them – a small “highland sheep” sculpture and a small “faerie door” pendant.
